Hunga Agro Centre Profile

A skilling and incubation hub advancing agroecology and sustainable farming established and run by Health Promotion and Rights Watch Uganda. We equip smallholder farmers and communities with practical skills in agriculture, agribusiness, nutrition, and environmental management, while promoting climate-smart and resilient food systems.

Through training, incubation, and a farmer-to-consumer marketplace, we empower communities to boost productivity, create jobs, improve food security and nutrition as well as promotion of inclusive sustainable livelihoods. With a strong technical team and a holistic approach, Hunga Agro Centre is driving inclusive community transformation.

Our Objectives

  • To provide employment opportunities among women, youth and households
  • To equip households with the modern agricultural skills.
  • To enhance household nutrition and health.
  • To promote commercial farming for improved household income and wellbeing.

Why ISHEM?

Instead of large-scale, top-down interventions, ISHEM focuses on empowering households to make optimal use of their limited land and resources. By transforming small household plots into productive, diversified micro-enterprises, families are equipped to overcome challenges of malnutrition, poverty, and climate change.

At Hunga Agro Centre, our work is guided by the Integrated Small Household Enterprise Model (ISHEM) – a household-centered, climate-resilient framework that transforms low-income, land constrained families into engines of food security, health, and income generation.
